Hi all,
I'd like to start with a quick word of
thanks to the ScaleCreepers for the invite to participate in this
"event" and to guest author on this august Blog! Cheers boys!
I
guess there is supposed to be where I wax philosophical about HeroQuest
and about how great it is, or was, and how discovering it changed my
life and lead me down the path to proper wargamming enlightenment.
...Well
I'm sorry to disappoint...but, I'm actually not that fond of HQ and had
managed to avoid playing a game of if until the summer of 2015 when
AirborneGrove introduced it to me at the OHNW event in Allentoen
PA...this was followed by one other notable game in the fall of 2016
that was GMed by Crooksy from the other side of the world...sadly I
think I slept through the second half of that game....I got tired of
watching Lopez's character fall into pit trap...after pit trap...after pit
trap...zzzzzz
Anyway...Being the type of guy that
has always liked to follow the cool kids around and do what they are
doing (this got me in a lot of trouble in High school)...when all the
ScaleCreeps dove into the Heroquest Quest I committed to painting a
figure for it as well! Ardyer offered up an appropriate figure for me to
work on...and...
...then I set it aside and forgot about it for like 8 months. LOL
But
Andrew's constant and unrelenting nagging and whining finally broke
down my resistance (he's a REALLY good Nag)...plus it's Orctober so I set
aside a night to knock this thing out.
Oi! it's a
rough sculpt...but I persevered and got him done. The cloth of the
tunic is actually fairly well sculpted and was fun to paint...but the
head, arms and other bits were RUGGED...I'm actually most proud of the
flagstone base that Andrew included with the figure as I experimented
with some different colored stones and they actually worked out!
Anyway...enough of my blathering...you are all just here for the money shot anyway...so here it is!
...Ugh...I'm Glad that's OVER!
ummm...yeah...so there it is... but thanks to the Scale Creeps for letting me soil your Blog!
Cheers,
Blue
Solid turd polishing Blue. The Orc is possibly the weakest HQ sculpt, but that one looks great.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking part!
Thanks mec!
DeleteYou clearly didn't have an easy one like Paul said, looks like solid painting can make miracles. ^^
ReplyDeleteIt was a tough slog...but good to check that box.
DeleteYou done good Blue. Despite your boiling hatred for Heroquest, you squirted out a damn fine orc. The tasty base was a nice addition, it distracts the eye nicely from the more... rustic parts of the sculpt.
ReplyDeleteRustic? yes...Rustic indeed...like how the jawline morphs into the shoulder with no hesitation...lol. Thanks Mr. Sat!
DeleteI am not a "REALLY good nag!" I am the best nag!
ReplyDelete'UGE NAG!!! Trust me...you can nag better than anyone...
DeleteTop work! Solid, earthy scheme.
ReplyDeleteawww shucks...thanks mate!
DeleteFinally....I thought you fell asleep like you did in the last heroquest game. LMAO Nice orc dawg.
ReplyDeleteI almost fell asleep painting it...
DeleteYes, HQ does suck arse Blue. Your not alone....it's just you and me who think this way I'm afraid though :)
ReplyDeleteYou did a fine job on painting up this Orc though. I like how you thought the base is better than the mini :D Says a lot about your opinion of the sculpt :D
The sculpting on the base is vastly superior to the Orc itself...who knew that rocks could outshine a figure...lol
DeleteBoo and hiss to you both! Heroquest is the bomb!
DeleteYou boys been huffin' paint thinner or something? Heroquest represents the pinnacle of board game design.
Deletemayhaps...but board games are for families to play after dinner. Warhammer is a real game.
DeleteMost HQ orcs look like they were painted by 8 year olds with massive brushes. Yours is silky smooth and refined! I like the contrast between the dark green skin and pink lip. I like the traditional fantasy browns. The flagstone base really sets the whole model off!
ReplyDeleteAhhh Shucks...you made me blush. Thanks Axiom.
DeleteNice work on the orc, I'm glad I still have a few years before I need to start painting my HQ miniatures. Out of curiosity: how did you paint the colored flagstones? Solid colors with a drybrush/edge of grey? Glazes? Would love to steal your thunder there ;)
